Staff Biography for Monica Brett
Monica Brett is the Nevada Program Associate with the Southwest Energy
Efficiency Project (SWEEP), a Boulder, Colorado-based public interest
organization promoting energy efficiency policies and programs in the states of
Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
After graduating from the University of California, Irvine, Monica first worked
in the private sector, where she honed her skills in observing current trends,
trouble-shooting, networking, advising and training. These skills helped her to
deal with conflict resolution, develop implementation tools, facilitate
stakeholder dialogue and assess client needs.
In 1991, she decided to pursue studying the development of the European Union in
London. After the Rio Earth Summit and the UK's decision to implement
sustainable development, she found her calling. Using her multi-disciplinary
background in Politics, Law, Business and Science, Monica focused on explaining
the consequences of action or inaction to decision-makers. Starting with local
political initiatives, she worked her way to the international arena in order to
gain practical experience in areas such as effective policy development,
diplomacy, building strong coalitions and communication outreach.
After 13 years working for the UK, EU and UN, Monica made the move back to the
US. Since settling in Nevada, she has focused her attention on building a
sustainable infrastructure for energy efficiency and renewable energy.
The main thread that links all of Monica's work is a commitment to effective
decision making through education. She therefore commits time to community
outreach. Monica is Environment Chair of the League of Women Voters of the Las
Vegas Valley and is on the Board of the Nevada Conservation League and Nevada
Faculty Alliance. |
