Industrial Efficiency
SWEEP is a key part of two new statewide industrial
energy efficiency programs in Colorado and Utah that
complement existing utility demand-side management (DSM)
programs. In addition SWEEP promotes strong and
effective utility industrial efficiency programs
throughout the southwest region.
In Colorado, SWEEP leads and coordinates the
Colorado Industrial Energy
Challenge (CIEC), a program sponsored by the U.S.
Department of Energy (DOE) and the Colorado Governor’s
Energy Office (GEO) which encourages large and
medium-size industrial facilities to set a five-year
energy efficiency goal and to track and report progress
towards the goal. The program offers public recognition
from the Governor of Colorado, free technical
assistance, networking events, and training
opportunities.
In Utah, SWEEP is part of the
Utah Industrial Energy
Efficiency Program, which is similar to the CIEC
program, without any on-site technical assistance. In
Utah, the program emphasizes training events and
networking opportunities, as well as public recognition
and goal-setting.
SWEEP is also taking an active role in promoting
utility industrial DSM programs in the region, by
facilitating sharing of best practices between
utilities, and by discussing possible program
enhancements directly with the utility industrial DSM
program managers.
