[PHOENIX, AZ] – On July 6, Plug In America and the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP) presented their third annual Arizona Transportation Electrification Forum. More than 150 policymakers, city managers, fleet operators, electric vehicle (EV) companies, and consumer and environmental advocates participated in discussions on how Arizona should plan for EV charging station investments that will flow from the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will receive more than $76.5 million in federal dollars from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program, one of many programs created by the law.
The Arizona Transportation Electrification Forum highlighted keynote speakers, including Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, ADOT Director John Halikowski, and Arizona Commerce Authority President and CEO Sandra Watson. This year's event also featured roundtable discussions with the Maricopa Association of Governments, Federal Highway Administration, KORE Power, ElectraMeccanica, EVgo, Cruise, General Motors, Li-Cycle, as well as Arizona Public Service and Salt River Project.
"Arizona has a historic opportunity to provide equitable access to charging stations for the next generation of EV drivers," said Caryn Potter, Arizona Representative for SWEEP. "The third annual Arizona Transportation Electrification Forum facilitated conversations with decision makers from every level of Arizona government and industry to ensure that all voices were at the table. We hope this is the first of many conversations to come."
"We're thrilled to have hosted the third annual Arizona Transportation Electrification Forum in partnership with SWEEP. It was inspiring and productive to have so many leaders from across Arizona and the federal level participate in the forum. A big thank you to all our speakers for your participation and leadership. We look forward to applying the feedback from the Forum to help shape Arizona's plans to drive EV adoption!" said Joel Levin, Executive Director of Plug In America.
